Mount Evelyn was a railway station on the Warburton line in Melbourne, Australia. The station operated until the line closure in 1965. All that remains of this station now is a retaining wall for the station platform. The station house also remains and now operates as a community centre.The coming of the Railway station was an important event in Evelyn's history. Within a year of its opening, the Victorian Railways were offering cheap excursion fares which made the destination very appealing to day-trippers and tourists, especially those of the working classes with limited means for travel. By the 1920s, literally hundreds of excursionists were travelling to Evelyn at weekends and during holiday periods.In the post-war period, an Evelyn Progress Association was formed. One of its actions was to lobby for the change of name from Evelyn to Mt Evelyn, an appellation which was formalised in 1913.
